For instance, although any TV will work with a home theater system, usually a larger sized TV is the way to go, because you will get a better quality picture.
If you are willing to spend a larger amount of money, the best idea is to get a television set that is digital ready, which means that it should either be equipped with a built-in HDTV tuner, or that it is capable of reproducing HDTV signals from an externally connected set-top box. You will also need an audio/video receiver or processor component that includes Dolby Digital technology, in order to be able to decode the Dolby Digital signal into its six discrete output channels. A good idea is to choose a receiver or processor that has at least two digital inputs: one for your DVD player and the other for HDTV.
You should remember that each speaker that is included in your home theater system will need its own channel of amplification, so for instance a 5.1 system would need six channels and a 7.1 system would need eight. Although the amplifiers are usually built in to the audio/video receivers, there are also some stand-alone multi-channel power amplifiers that are available for use with preamp/processor components.
